    Position Overview:

    We are looking to expand our talented team with an experienced Senior Backend Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-performance backend services and APIs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and optimize scalable solutions while ensuring the highest standards of security and code quality. You will join our Platform Squad, one of three backend teams owning core platform services and back-office tooling - the systems the rest of the company depends on day to day.

    Responsibilities within the team:

    • Design, develop, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Node.js backend applications and APIs

    • Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and performance

    • Break down ambiguous work into well-scoped deliverables, surfacing assumptions and risks early

    • Write and maintain unit and integration tests as a first-class part of delivery

    • Contribute to evolving our testing strategy and quality bar across the codebase

    • Review pull requests with care, giving constructive, specific feedback and welcoming it in return

    • Own services end-to-end: instrument them with logs, metrics, and support them in production including participation in the on-call rotation

    • Ensure the security and integrity of applications through best practices and compliance standards

    • Implement and maintain database schemas, queries, and performance tuning

    • Work with CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment and improve development workflows

    • Mentor other engineers through pairing, code review, technical discussions, and onboarding

    • Drive architectural decisions - writing tech specs, weighing tradeoffs, and bringing the team along

    Job requirements

    Facing the challenges of the role requires:

    • Demonstrable experience shipping and operating production Node services at scale

    • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript

    • Extensive experience with Node.js frameworks (e.g. Express.js, Nest.js)

    • Solid understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and microservices; familiarity with message queues (e.g. RabbitMQ)

    • Proficiency in SQL and database schema design (e.g. MySQL)

    • Experience with RESTful API design and development

    • Strong understanding of service-based/component-based architecture

    • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized applications

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and within a team

    • Strong testing discipline - comfortable writing unit and integration tests, and advocating for test strategies that give the team confidence to ship

    • Experience operating production services - comfortable using logs, metrics, and traces to debug live issues

    • Track record of technical leadership on a team - not just individual output, but raising the bar around you

    Could bring additional value:

    • Experience with Azure DevOps and Kubernetes

    • Exposure to DevOps practices, infrastructure as code (Helm, Terraform, Ansible) and monitoring tools

    • Comfortable collaborating with frontend engineers working in Angular - able to reason about API contracts and data shapes from their perspective, without writing frontend code yourself

    • Proficiency in NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB)

    Salary range: 4.800 – 7.500 EUR gross, according to your experience and skill level.
